I’m in Love with Kindle Spy

Kindle Spy is a slick piece of software enabling you to reverse-engineer pages on Kindle. Here are three ways I use it.

1. Evaluating Keywords

Kindle spy allows me to see how well a category of books is doing. This is important, because I want to be in a niche that sells well.

For example, one of the keywords I checked out was “Romantic Suspense mystery.” I typed it in the search area and up came a list of books. I hit the Kindle Spy icon and a spreadsheet appeared detailing the ranking of each book and revenue/month.

This data helps me decide if that keyword is good for me.

2. Word clouds

It also generates word clouds (i.e., worldes) for each group which weighs the importance of specific words.

3. Snooping

Wouldn’t you like to know how well other authors are doing? There is a way. You go to an author’s page on Kindle and hit the Kindle spy icon. Up pops their stats, which includes the number of books they are selling, rankings and revenue.

Seeing how transparent the whole business is made me gulp. But it is useful and easily attainable information.

Author: Jo-Ann Carson

About Jo-Ann Carson Where magic happens … Reports of Jo-Ann Carson’s death on a Gulf Island are greatly exaggerated or, at the very least, premature. The eclectic crew of ghosts that haunt her head spill onto the page in two series: The Gambling Ghosts and The Ghost & Abby Mysteries. A Viking with existential issues, a broken hearted Highlander, a Casanova man-witch and a Pirate with a secret are just a few of the males her strong heroines encounter in tales of fantasy, adventure and romance. A firm believer in the magic of our everyday lives, Jo-Ann loves watching sunrises, walking beaches near her home in the Pacific Northwest and reading by the fire. 1. You are certainly gifted when it comes to all this technology stuff, Jo-Ann. So do you by the spyware? Very interesting, but not sure others should be able to tell how many books I’ve sold. Just saying. Maybe I’d feel differently if I’d sold tons. LOL

    1. Hi Marsha
Kindle Spy costs about $39. USD. I won’t even mention what that turns out to be in Canadian. Our dollar is killing us.
I know what you mean about not wanting everyone to know the details of your business. But there are no secrets.
      Have a great Sunday
