Indie Rambles #12 – More About the Naked Truth

naked truthI promised to write more about The Naked Truth About Self-Publishing by 10 NYT Bestselling authors (Jana DeLeon,Tina Folsom,Colleen Gleason, Jane Graves, Denise Grover Swank, Liliana Hart, Debra Holland, Dorien Kelly, Theresa Ragan and Jasinda Wilder.). Here is my post.

The book is full of insightful and useful information for Indie writer/publishers. So full, it’s hard to whittle it down to three nuggets to share.

But I did. My three favorite quotes are below.

One – re: Promotion

“Make it easy for people to one-click you.” (page 57) Think about that.

Two – re: Keywords

“…keywords are more important than categories. If you choose your keywords wisely, you’re actually opening yourself up to be included in more categories” (page 73)

“…keywords are not set in stone….If you start seeing a lag in sales then go in and readjust your keywords to whatever happens to be trending (as long as it fits your book).” (p. 74)

Three – re: Playing the Algorithms

“Amazon works on a 30 day, 60 day, 90 day release schedule…which means once you publish your three to five titles [they recommend you start with] you have to keep feeding the beast. So you have 90 days from your first uploads…before your rankings take a dive and you fall into oblivion.(page 70)

  1. Well, don’t we just love Amazon. Well, we do really. It’s opened a whole world for authors, but the numbers stuff makes me nuts! You do the most amazing job of summarizing, Jo-Ann! Thanks for sharing this.
