Indie Rambles #11 – Tips for Virgins

Getting back into studying Indie publishing, I picked up one of my favorite books, The Naked Truth about Self Publishing by 10 NYT Bestselling authors (Jana DeLeon,Tina Folsom,Colleen Gleason, Jane Graves, Denise Grover Swank, Liliana Hart, Debra Holland, Dorien Kelly, Theresa Ragan and Jasinda Wilder.)

naked truth

Yes, the cover is hot.

All books on “going Indie” cover the basics in their own way, but this one makes me giggle all the way through.

Leave it to Romance writers. Ten NY times bestselling authors to be exact (who btw include a PhD in Counseling Psychology, a Marketing MBA and an attorney). They conceived the idea for this book in a hot tub at an all-inclusive resort in Cancun Mexico.

Check out the first nine (of 39) chapter titles:

Tips for Virgins

by Teresa Ragan – a concise introduction to getting started

by Dorien Kelly – for traditionally published writers who are considering self-publishing

Breaking Up is Hard to Do

by Jane Graves – examines issues related to leaving traditional publishing

Conquering the Bottom Before You Can Be On the Top

by Denise Grover Swank – writing a business plan

Pimping Yourself Out

by Colleen Gibson – marketing and publicity

The Art of Seduction

by Lillian Hart – Social Media and Marketing

Street Walkers

by Lillian Hart – organizing a street team

Taking it in the Back Door

by Lillian Hart – navigating algorithms, categories and keywords

Author Threesomes and More

by Jana Deleon- author support groups

Clearly, this book deserves more than one post. More next week.

What about you? Do you have a favorite Indie book?

Author: Jo-Ann Carson

About Jo-Ann Carson Where magic happens … Reports of Jo-Ann Carson’s death on a Gulf Island are greatly exaggerated or, at the very least, premature. The eclectic crew of ghosts that haunt her head spill onto the page in two series: The Gambling Ghosts and The Ghost & Abby Mysteries. A Viking with existential issues, a broken hearted Highlander, a Casanova man-witch and a Pirate with a secret are just a few of the males her strong heroines encounter in tales of fantasy, adventure and romance. A firm believer in the magic of our everyday lives, Jo-Ann loves watching sunrises, walking beaches near her home in the Pacific Northwest and reading by the fire. 1. I just bought the book. That alone speaks to the importance of titles and branding. The titles were funny and writers such as Jana Deleone are like brands. I trust them to give me a good read,
