Museo dell’Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore

We really enjoyed this museum which houses pieces from the Santa Maria church. Kind of the left overs. Ooops can I say that about masterpieces? The problem was there wasn’t enough room to show everything in the church.

We went to see the doors of Paradise which I will make a separate post of, because they alone are worth a trip to Florence.

Our other two favorites in this museum are:

Michelangelo’s Pieta, an unfinished piece he planned for his own tombstone.

and Mary Magdelana by Donatello. I like how worn her face looks, so unlike the idealized features he uses in other sculptures.

Today we are traveling to Lucca. More tomorrow. Ciao.
